INTRODUCTION The modern definition of sovereignty is generally attributed to John Austin. No doubt, he was the first jurist who articulated its concept in such a manner that well suited the legal structure of England. Though written with the predominant consideration of British legal system, yet the phraseology which Austin used to define the term 'sovereign' and 'sovereignty' still remains a juristic reality despite all the criticisms from various quarters.
